Up until 3years ago I was unaware of the work of speech and language therapists. Now it is a big part of my family life.

Having had 2 children with speech disorders it has highlighted to me what an impact speech and language development has on childrens' lives and what a hidden disability it is for those who can't communicate. It also has an impact at school, both socially and in the classroom.

It is a growing problem with 1 in 5 preschoolers now having speech and language problems.

We have been able to turn to I CAN to find out information about speech problems and receive guidance as to where to look for further information. 

I will be running in April for all the children who struggle to communicate their thoughts and especially with one of my sons in mind; for the hard work and effort he makes everyday to learn to communicate through speech or sign language and the patience he has when we cannot understand him. He is winning and will continue to win his struggle to talk.
