Story
Those of you who know me can guess with a high level of accuracy what my immediate reaction was when my wife (Yoko) and 11 year old daughter (Emma) came home from ballet practice and told me that the head of their school wanted me to play the king character when they perform Sleeping Beauty on December 10 and 11. It did not help that this performance will be in a several hundred seat theatre in central Singapore. Anyhow, long story short, I came to the realization while sitting around a dinner table with friends (and a few bottles of wine...) that there are likely some people that would donate money to see this happen. Therefore, I have decided to make the best of this craziness and try to raise money for a good cause. It will take a significant investment on my part to get physically (and mentally!) prepared for this- including sacrificing a major portion of my weekends at ballet rehearsals... As a result, I am hoping to raise a minimum of SGD 5000 for participating in this performance.
The charity I have chosen provides support to children who lost their parents in the 2011 earthquake/tsunami in Japan. You can find more information on them at www.aidforjapan.co.uk. There is a link to a Youtube video on the site about their program which provides intercultural experiences for the children in the UK.
Thanks in advance!
