Story

Me and my fellow Portsmouth & Southsea Voluntary Lifeguards are taking a dip in the sea on Christmas day to raise money for the club. We provide beach lifeguard cover for Southsea seafront which takes the form of shoreline, surfski and boat patrols during weekends and bank holidays between May and September. The club is a declared rescue unit to Her Majesty's Coastguard which sees both our lifeguard members and rescue boats being tasked to 999 incidents. The club also provides specialist rescue and first aid cover for special events e.g. triathlons, pier to pier and cross Solent swims. We are members of the Solent Sea Rescue Operation (S.S.R.O.) and the club is affiliated to the Royal Lifesaving Society (R.L.S.). We train once a week, every week - summer months in the sea and winter months at the pool, so we can provide this voluntary service to the general public. We rely on donations to fund our operation so any amount is greatly appreciated.
