Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We are running / stumbling / crawling (delete as appropriate) the Edinburgh Half Marathon on 29 May. Why Edinburgh, you ask? Because the route 'is overall slightly downhill', and we need all the help we can get. Plus, any excuse for a jolly to the Scottish capital. And why a half marathon, you also ask? This is a very good question, and one that has been plaguing us as it dawns closer. It's all well and good signing up in the comfort of your own home on your laptop (as we did nearly a year ago!) but as it creeps closer you realise you actually have to do it. 21 km. 13 miles. 830,610 painstaking inches. This is the same distance as Peterborough to Stamford, Newcastle to Durham (nearly), Bristol to Bath and Portsmouth to the seventh circle of hell (only joking!).
The things that will be getting us through are the thoughts of the first post-run pint (Emily - I initially typed 'pre-run pint(!)') and how much food we can eat afterwards (Sophie).
We wanted to support a local Scottish charity, and both had different ideas about some worthy causes we could consider. Penumbra are a mental health charity who pretty much do it all - supporting around 1000 adults and young people every week in areas including self harm, homelessness and social exclusion to name but a few.
All donations - no matter how small - will mean a lot to both us and this great charity. And remember, technically we are actually running a MARATHON (well between us anyway) so please spare a few quid to support us in our foolish endeavor. As Soph says, 'it turns out that half of a very very long way (i.e. a marathon) is still a very long way'.
