Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you may know, on Tuesday 12th April 2016 my brother, Adam Bramwell, took his own life after an ongoing battle with his mental health. I don't wish to write too much here as we are all still struggling to come to terms with what has happened but I wanted to quickly update my JustGiving page to confirm that I will still be completing the half marathon as it now means more to me than ever. Natalie McGuire has also signed up and will be raising money via this JustGiving account. Below are my original words when setting up this page:
This year I will be running my second half marathon. The same race as last year, but a lot less fit!
Last year I raised an overwhelming amount of money for Cancer Research. I understand that we cannot donate to every charity for every event we do - this page is to generate awareness and of course, if I get a few sponsors then I have to go ahead and actually do the run!
I am supporting Manchester Mind for this year's race. Manchester Mind is an independent, local mental health charity which delivers services to young people and adults.
Year on year I hear more stories of people who are suffering from depression or anxiety, whether minor or serious. It is hard to easily see those that are struggling, therefore hard to show encouragement.
I believe that many people go through a stage in their life where they would benefit from speaking to an independent source to help them through a challenging time, yet choose to go on in silence.
I want to help generate awareness for charities like Manchester Mind and help lead people to understand that mental health isn't something to be ashamed of or hide away from, and that support is always there.
I am also supporting friends who are running an event for Manchester Mind this September - https://www.facebook.com/events/475971429270589/
