Story
One year ago my brother was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). He is 38 years old. He immediately started chemotherapy and then full body radiotherapy followed by a stem cell transplant.
This is what has brought me to where I am now. I decided to run an ultra marathon to raise as much awareness as possible about becoming a stem cell donor. We were so fortunate that both my younger brother, Adam, and I were both matches for Mark, but I know that many others are not in this position. It was such a relief to know that that one box was ticked early on in Mark's treatment but I have thought so often about others who are not in that position and how harrowing that must feel not knowing if a match can be found. The more people that go on the register, the more likely it is a match can be found.
I came across the charity Love Hope Strength and loved everything they stand for. I believe we can all make a difference one small step at a time, whether it's supporting other cancer patients who are being treated, or supporting their families, encouraging people to go onto the stem cell register (which is super simple!) or just making people smile... I decided to try and make a difference by taking a lot of steps... enough to cover 75 miles in 24 hours! I totally appreciate any support you can give me, either moral or financial. Both are welcome xx
