Story
My husband Martin & I first visited India in 2011 and spent 3 days in Ranthambhore (18 hours bouncing around in a jeep) in a tiger reserve and didn't see a single tiger - there are so few of them left. We went back in 2014 and were luckier. We spent two hours watching the most beautiful young adult tiger (Sultan - who subsequently disappeared) and his Mum (Noor) in the wild. We fell in love with these beautiful creatures but also became far more aware of the conservation challenges as the trade for tiger body parts means that poaching is rife and local people need better education about the need for conservation and the forest guards need support with equipment to do their job even better. Rather than just sit back and watch this happen I wanted to do something proactive to help them. I was devastated when Ustad (Sultan's Dad), another male tiger was taken out of the wild and put in a local zoo in Udaipur. Tiger Awareness are doing amazing work on the ground in conservation and education. I'm organising a whole weekend of activities on 17-18 September at the David Lloyd in Finchley to raise funds for tiger conservation.
This page is to enable friends, family and other supporters to help us raise money so that our children and granchildren don't just hear about tigers in natural history museums. If we don't take action now it will be too late and they will become extinct.
Thank you for your support and thanks to Vijay Kumawat for his beautiful photo of Ustad above.
