Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On July 10th 2015, Elin, our eldest daughter, at 15, a healthy and active teenager was suddenly taken ill, and after emergency treatment and extensive tests, was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome. This is a very rare and serious condition of the peripheral nervous system. It occurs when the body's immune system attacks the nervous system.
The next twelve months resulted in Elin enduring constant agonising body pain and paralysis. Her limited movement could only be supplemented by the use of a wheelchair. This impacted enormously on many levels and aspects of Elin's life, not only socially but educationally. This resulted in her having to shelve her schooling for the period of her recovery.
After being discharged from hospital having received treatment, the only course of rehabilitation was through rigorous physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.
Elin bagan receiving daily sessions of intense treatment at Glangwili Hospital. She was in excruciating pain during these sessions, but with the fantastic support, encouragement and expertise of the wonderful staff, that by now, 14 months later, Elin is back on her feet, and has returned to school in order to continue with her education.
I'm extremely grateful to the Paediatric Physiotherapy Department at Glangwili for enabling our daughter to lead a normal "teenage" life again. I want to express my overwhelming gratitude by running the Cardiff Half Marathon, and thereby raising funds for this remarkable hospital department.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for you very kind donations. Diolch o galon am eich cefnogaeth.
