We fund world wide prevention research to help more people to a cancer free future

Story

As most of you are are aware the past couple of years on both sides of our families we have been-dealing with relatives having cancer. Paul’s uncle passed away from cancer sadly a few years ago and his mum had breast cancer and after on-going treatment has thankfully just now been given her 5th year all clear and come through the other side.

Then over the past 6 years  my dad has also been having constant treatment for cancer, hopefully we have finally turned a corner with Dad as well now and he is also currently cancer free but is still suffering from the consequences of having so much treatment over the years.

As you know I have never been sporty in the past but have found a love of exercise through my weight loss journey of loosing over 6 stone and determination to not put it back on!! I found my love of running through initially trying to try to fundraise for cancer research charities to turn negative situations the family was going through into something positive. I did my first race for life about 5years ago and walked the distance which at the time was a big thing for me. Two Years ago this progressed to running my 1st half marathon in aid of CancerResearch and since then I have personally ran 6 more plus numerous mudruns.

Now some of the most upsetting times are hopefully behind us for our immediate families we still can't turn a blind eye and forget this terrible disease is hitting people all the time and we need to try and do something about it.  If we can continue to raise money to fund the research for finding a cure or learning how to preventthis horrible disease then one day hopefully people such as my nieces and nephews will not have to watch loved ones or themselves suffer like some of our relatives have!

I appreciate people are always asking money for sponsorship these days and I will not keep asking for money unless I am prepared to earn it!! So I have taken up the challenge of running the London Marathon in 2016.

Running 26.2 miles!! Crazy you may think!!  I’m petrified of this challenge and the training ahead but I have the greatest motivation to complete this.

My motivation has two main factors. Firstly to raise money for the charity World Cancer Research Fund.World Cancer Research Funds mission is to champion the latest and most authoritative scientific research from around the world on cancer prevention and survival through diet, weight and physical activity, so that we can helppeople make informed lifestyle choices to reduce their cancer risk.

One in two!!!! Cancer Currently affects one in two people in the UK but about a third of the most common cancers could be prevented through eating a healthy diet, being physically active and maintaining a healthy weight. That’s around 84,000 cancer-free lives. This leads me to my second motivation. To be a role model for the future generations in my family, I want to lead by example to my nieces and nephews and show them how diet and exercise is a big part of their destiny and also to set the path for them to push themselves to achieve goals and support charities in the future. That with a little effort and the right knowledge and education we all can collectively help change our own future. Also to anyone else who thinks they can't change their life they can!!! If you think you can't achieve a goal, loose that weight and completely turn your current lifestyle on a head you can!! If I can ANYONE can!! Look at the pictures on this page as proof!!!

In addition to me running the London  Marathon we will also be doing a number of other fundraising activities as we really want to raise as much money as we possibly can. Paul's Mum(Lilly) has been appointed as my Chief Fundraising Manager!! She has kindly offered to organise all the extra fundraising events and has lots of great ideas already. So please keep an eye on this page regularly as I will be listing the events Lil has planned with dates and also writing a running blog during my marathon training.

TOGETHER WE CAN BEATCANCER!!!!

Thanks so much for your support!!

Love Emma x Xx
