Every year, the company that I work for runs a physical Big Bold Challenge as part of it's Giving Something Back programme. It is a key opportunity for employees to make a difference to the causes and communtities that are close to their hearts. the individual contributions made really benefits society and the combined employee effort really does have a great impact. Over the last three years, the challenge has raised almost three quarters of a million pounds for charities up and down the UK. This year, with more people than ever taking part, the company is aiming for the million pound mark.

This year, I have taken up the challenge and have chosen to support the Stubbington Ark, a local RSPCA animal welfare centre that provides care and rehoming for all manner of animals.  The centre handles 145 calls a day and takes in aroud 6,000 animals each year. Last year, 85% of animals were rehomed but that is now becoming harder to maintain. The easy availability of animals from unscrupulous breeders, puppy farms and irresponsible owners ensures an unwanted stream of animals into the centre.

As a volunteer dog walker at The Ark, I am constantly reminded of the hard work and dedication that is involved in ensuring the animals are well looked after and the efforts made to rehome them. It really is very difficult not to walk out of the centre each week with a different dog underneath each arm!
