Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As some of you may know, it's my 25th birthday on Monday 10th, and as there's not really anything I need or particularly want atm, I thought I would see if any of you who were thinking of getting me a present or a bday drink/cake of any kind, would instead, like to offer that bday gesture to Play Kenya - even if you were just gonna buy me a creme egg or something at 68p (which I would be more than happy with!), please put the pennies here instead :)
I've been meaning to fundraise for Play Kenya for about a year now, but for one reason or another haven't yet, which is why I'm using my birthday as an oppurtunity to do so.
Play Kenya was actually started by a friend of a friend (a friend of my mum's friend!). They have a safe house 'Rafiki Mwema' where young girls who have been sexually abused in Kenya can live with constant support and care, and are offered Play Therapy as a way to deal with their traumas. The staff at Play Kenya also support the girls through any court cases which they may have to face regarding their experiences.
Great work is done by this little charity, but their safe house it at risk of being shut down due to a severe lack of funds - they have therefore launched an Emergency Appeal. This is another reason why I would love it if anyone could donate anything to them, in place of a birthday token for me.
Rafiki Mwema means 'loyal friend', so to all of my loyal friends out there, old and new, close and distant, if you can spare a few pennies for them, it would mean the world to me, and even more to the girls who currently live there, and who deserve to stay there :) xx
