Story

Stinky’s Story

Driving back from the stables on the evening of 21st July 2015, Tim & I saw 3 objects on the road, we turned round and stopped to find a beautiful family of polecats that had been hit by a car and lay dying in the road as cars drove by ;-(

Mummy & 1 baby were gone but the other baby (we named him “Stinky”) stood screaming over their bodies.  .People would have known they had hit this little family, and we were the only ones to stop, and people drove past us as we tried to desperately find something to put him in and move the bodies of his family to the side of the road as a mark of respect.

What else could we do but find a way to bundle him up in a coat, get him back home and safely into a cat carrier with a hot water bottle.

"Stinky" was then driven by us to The Vale Wildlife Hospital & Rehabilitation Centre, where he was given urgent treatment and let's hope he can recover from his trauma and build a new life.

On the 22nd July he is still with us and brighter than the day before and wiggling around and in the rearing unit and eating for himself which is a good start. He is definitely a boy Polecat and he is a juvenile. He has another 5 days of antibiotics and antiflamitories to go, then his journey begins to stay at the Centre until he is big enough to go back out to the wild and start his Own Stinky Family.

We'd like us to set a target to cover treatment and rehabilitation of not just Stinky but all the Polecats for the next 12 months at this Rescue Centre.

Help us support Stinky & his friends and donate today.

Much love and thanks,

Em, Tim & Stinky.
