Story
I heard about Useful Vision through a colleague. Nick Wilsons son went blind at the age of 5 through treatment for cancer. His family found it very difficult to find accessible leisure and learning opportunities to for their son, so they took him to all sorts of activities anyway, skiing, cycling, and swimming! Ben Wilson, their son, sadly died in 2006 - so they thought they would use their experiences to help other vision impaired children in the region get more out of life. Useful Vision now supports nearly 400 families by running all sorts of exciting imaginative activities for VI children like sailing, climbing, kayaking, trips to the zoo touching and feeding the animals. All the activities are completely accessible for VI children, whilst at the same time offering an enjoyable experience for siblings and parents. All the money raised stays in the region and goes to supporting the children as the charity is primarily run by volunteers, and relies on donations and fundraising.
