Story
EROS’S STORY:
Back in 2006 while I was still at university and had no idea what Iwanted to do or let alone what I could do if and when I graduated, Blind in Business advised me to apply for a summer internship at Merrill Lynch.
They helped me fill out the on-line application form and provided an amanuensis who read the material out to me, helped me prepare flip charts andexplain anything visual.
I have heard some horror stories of visually impaired people going for interviews but a combination of Blind in Business and Merrill Lynch’s expertise, made it as easy for me as I could be.
I really want to emphasise that you (Louise) are the best running guide and without you I couldnot do it. Proof: the furthest I had ran until July this year was 10 km!
LOUISE’S STORY:
I have been Eros’s guide for over 2 years now, and from our early nervous runs around Batterseapark I am amazed at how far we have both come, smashing a sub 24 min park run just last weekend.! But now Eros is about to achieve something incredible and brave in running 26.2 miles (42K). They say between 0.5 and 1% of the world population have ever run a marathon, I would take a guess that less than 0.1% are blind.
I don't think he appreciated what he was letting himself in for when he asked me to train for a marathon with him, but here we are less than 3 months later having endured tough runs, puke inducing hill sprints, the odd lamp post and pothole ready to run the Bournemouth marathon next weekend.
Blind for Business is a small charity who help blind and partially sighted graduates to compete equally with sighted candidates for good jobs, by providing help, support and training, and by removing barriers to success.
Please support us and the charity, they are very small and need all the support they can get.
