Story

Please Adopt A Species!

Savetoday’s wildlife for tomorrow and give a unique present – a truly special gift for birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries and any important celebration.

Adopt a Species: more than 3,000 people havegiven or received this wonderful present over the last three years. This year, please adopt one of our species and help us achieve even more conservation workacross the county.

The species up for adoption this year are:

Water Vole Exmoor Pony Brown Hare Barn Owl Bumblebee Common Newt

For just £20 please giveyourself, family or friends a present with an experience. Go to Blue House Farmand feel a flutter when you see a Barn Owl hunting. Or why not adopt a CommonNewt for your children/grandchildren and hear their excited shouts as they ponddip with you? The Exmoor Ponies are a sight to behold on Tiptree Heath and wecan provide an expert to tell you all about this rare breed. What was once acommon ‘plop’ of a Water Vole is now an all too rare sound - but one that canbe experienced on some Essex Wildlife Trust nature reserves.

If you haven’t adopted aspecies before, please do, you will be supporting our work and in return wereally can offer you a unique present. Your recipient will receive acertificate and stunning badge of their chosen species on the appropriateanniversary. Also, you and your recipient will be invited together to a specialevent to experience your Adopted Species.

This year we had over 300 people attend these events andwe even celebrated a birthday at the Blue House Farm Barn Owl event - and the birthday boygot to see a real Barn Owl hunting in the wild.

After giving thispresent with a difference, bring your favourite person along to experience areally informative and fun event. It is always a privilege to listen and learnfrom my knowledgeable colleagues, who are so passionate about our Essexwildlife.

Come to Tiptree Heath and see the handsomeExmoor ponies and enjoy a talk by the warden and expert from the ExmoorPony Society. Adopt a Newt and take your children or grandchildren pond dipping- adults are allowed to take part too! Adopt a Bumblebee and learn from a realexpert in the Trust about bees and how they are critical to the food chain.Join our Water for Wildlife Officer and learn about our charismatic Water Voles– and you might see one too! And you can never tire of a view of a Barn Owl ora rejuvenating walk at Blue House Farm; this year’s Hare event meant that allof our Adopt a Species participants saw Hares at Blue House Farm!

From just £20 per species you can support thework of Essex Wildlife Trust, give a unique present and enjoy a reallyinformative and inspirational event led by some real wildlife experts.
