Story
My cousin Eden was left with acquired brain injury (ABI) following Encephalitis in March 2011 after having a massive seizure that left her unconscious. Eden was then taken by ambulance to Sheffield's children hospital where she regained consciousness without the ability to see, hear or speak at all. After almost a week her sight came back and she was able to recognise the people around her. She had recovered sufficiently so was moved to a small ward where she was taught to walk and talk again.
Eden thankfully survived this ordeal and is still with us physically, but emotionally, physiologically and behaviorally she is a completely different child. For Eden going through this was upsetting and confusing due to the lack of information known about ABI. My Auntie Petrina (Eden's mother) found herself feeling 'lost and isolated' and wishes there was more information readily available about the condition. She realised nobody fully understands ABI as it is often a silent condition and affects each sufferer differently.
The Eden Dora Trust was set up to raise awareness about Encephalitis and support families affected by the condition.
I feel passionate about raising money for this charity as it helps thousands of people going through difficult and confusing times, and provides information and support to families.
