Story
Hello Friends and Family
Since July last year I have been lucky enough to work for the incredible Roundhouse in Camden, London. You may know the Roundhouse as a world-famous music venue but not many people are aware that we are actually an incredible charity that provides opportunities for young people aged 11-25 through music, spoken word, broadcast, street circus, theatre, production and more. We even have our own radio station which is on air 24 hours a day and managed entirely by our trainee radio station managers.
Underneath our iconic Main Space lie the Paul Hamlyn studios where young people can pay as little as £1 to come and use industry-standard equipment and rehearse in custom built spaces and studios. We offer young people a range of professional development opportunities, including traineeships, workshops, drop in sessions, bursaries and targeted projects to help them further their careers and move into the creative industries. Young people really are at the heart of what we do; we have our own incredible youth support workers who are on hand every day to offer support and advice to our emerging artists, many of whom are from socially or economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
'I was working in a chip shop four days a week with no clear idea on how to access jobs within the music industry or how to turn my passion for music into a career. I’m now working as a Promotions Manager for a record label – if it wasn’t for the support of the Roundhouse this wouldn’t have been possible.'

Young people are facing a tough future. 25% of young people in London aged 16-24 are currently classified as not in education, employment or training. In a climate of high youth unemployment but with a rapidly growing creative sector, the need for our work with young people is greater than ever. The creative industries are growing at five times the rate of the wider UK economy and predicted to rise by 32% over the next 10 years, leading to significant skills gaps. At the Roundhouse, we believe in the power of creativity to change lives and our diverse programme is designed to target those young people who are most in need, to build skills for employment and personal development
I'm proud to be running the London Vitality 10k to raise money for the Roundhouse and am so grateful for all of your support, large or small. £5 could pay for 5 hours of free rehearsal space for the superstars of tomorrow, £25 could pay for a year's membership for a young carer to get out of the house and explore their creativity at the Roundhouse, or - if you're feeling generous - £150 could pay for a project targeting London's most disadvantaged and isolated young people.
I work in the fundraising team at the Roundhouse so have my professional reputation to protect, please dig deep to help me smash my target! £200 will make such a difference but I would love to raise even more if I can.
Thank you so much for your support, come and see a gig soon and ask me to show you around the Paul Hamlyn Studios - they're amazing!
Love to you all, embarrassing sweaty selfies to follow...
