Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page, and to Madame Mayor, Cllr Dr Patricia Walker, pictured with me here as we raise awareness of her chosen charity, Acton Homeless Concern.
£10 - the cost of a trip to the barbers - would provide 20 meals, or 30
showers, or even a haircut for one person who seeks help in Acton Homeless Concern; they touch the lives of about 300 people a day.
We all have different challenges in life, and I'm lucky, I've chosen to set myself the target to finish this 100 mile ride through our thriving Capital city and luscious English countryside.
But we don't all have choices.
Some people have to just cope with the hand they've been dealt, past and present - perhaps when coming to terms with a bereavement,
suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, or not taking the medicine to control the schizophrenia (one side effect is drowsiness and then you become more vulnerable to abuse, aggression and violence), or feeling depressed, or being addicted to alcohol or drugs, and you start down the slippery slope...
That's when we would need all the support we can get - to give us a bit of dignity, to build up our self-esteem, to give us hope for something better.
I am finding it hard to imagine what it would be like to be homeless; the closest I can get is how I feel when there’s no hot water for me to shower after I've ridden for hours through the mud and rain and I'm
tired and wet and hungry and there’s no one at home to talk to…but I'm lucky as my discomfort lasts for a few hours only.
I'd like to make my ride worthwhile, so your contribution will really make that difference - to someone else's day, thank you.
