'The brightest stars burn for the shortest time '
Faye Proudlove, aged 14yrs was a bright, outgoing, fun girl who loved life and lived it to the full despite battling courageously with her illness for 6 years. Our tenacious little superstar went to join the angels on the 19 October 2010, her spirit was as ever strong to the end, but her body was weak, having endured years of chemotherapy, months of radiotherapy and extensive major surgery.
The manner in which Faye faced her plight has left its mark on everybody who knew or met her. Even those who didn’t know her but heard about her determination & character were touched and inspired by her.
‘Faye’s Wish’ was that cancer researchers could find a cure, control or vaccine for the tumour she had which was called an ‘embryonic rhabdomyosarcoma’.
This cruel tumour is extremely aggressive and is the most common type of sarcoma found in the soft tissues of children. Faye didn’t want other children to go through what she had to endure, first losing one eye then another before the tumour continued its relentless march into her brain.
There are very few people currently researching this type of tumour in the UK.
Dr Louis Chesler is working to develop new drugs for children suffering from cancers that respond poorly to existing treatment, including the muscle cancer rhabdomyosarcoma. He leads the Neuroblastoma Drug Development Team within the Institute for Cancer Research Section of Paediatric Oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
Our aim is to support his work by raising as much money as possible through a variety of different events in order to bring ‘Fayes Wish’ to life.
