Story
For years and years I have watched the London Marathon from the warmth and comfort of my home, each time saying it is something I would like to experience and tick off the 'bucket list'. After a few years of being unsuccessful in the public ballot this year I have finally been accepted to run on behalf of the incredible Firefighters Charity.
Whilst I have always enjoyed running, it is something I have not particularly trained in, as a chosen sport (as most people know I am far better in a swimming pool!) The training alone, is not going to be easy, so I know I am up for a major challenge!
The reason I have chosen to run on behalf of the Fire Fighter's Charity is down to my family and close friends.
I have been brought up in a fire service family, my Dad was a serving firefighter and my younger brother is also part of our local retained crew. Following in the footsteps, I joined Fire and Rescue Control 8 years ago and my close friends and social circles are all fire service orientated!
I was recently involved in an RTC, which has left me in some considerable pain, at Easter this year I attended Harcombe House in Devon for two weeks of intense physiotherapy, the services provided by the teams at all 3 of the charities treatment centres, are second to none, and without the help of the staff at Harcombe, I would not be where I am today. I return this September for a further week of treatment, and I am so thankful for the help and support in which the charity has given me.
Aside my own experiences, I have a number of friends who have also needed assistance from the charity, who have al benefitted so much from the treatment they have received.
In my milestone year, of turning 30 in 2016, I aim to complete the challenge I have set myself to run this marathon, and a few of you who visit this page will realise I shall be running in remembrance of some certain loved ones in my life who are no longer here, but I know they are with me in spirit..... So let the running commence!
