Story
I plan to spend the last Saturday in September quivering on top of a church spire trying to compose myself (this part will probably last about 4 hours) and then abseiling down it (this bit will probably take 4 minutes). I am not a fan of heights but I am hoping to face a fear to raise some cash for a fantastic charity that supports people to recover from eating disorders.
About 1 in every 17 adults in the UK experience anorexia, bulimia or binge eating disorders at some time in their lives. They can make day-to-day life agonising and are often symptomatic of mental health issues like depression. But the stigma that surrounds eating disorders means that many people struggle for years without any support.
I am raising money for IEAT, who offer crucial support through one-to-one mentoring, counselling and group sessions, offering people much needed hope for recovery. It is a small organisation run largely through the passion of volunteers, many of whom have recovered themselves from disorders. They rely on donations to keep their brilliant work going, so I would be delighted if you would consider sponsoring me :)
