Story

Welcome to the UBRacing JustGiving page

This year we are raising funds to do research into Composites for our chassis.

UBRacing is the University of Birmingham’s Formula Student Team.  We are an entirely student run project whose aim is to design, build and race a single-seater race car as part of the Formula Student competition.

After our most successful year yet we are looking to redesign the car to improve on our previous achievements. Our team is taking big steps to improve the car by using more composites and better manufacturing techniques. These changes will allow us to lose weight and gain more reliability in the car. A most exciting year indeed!

This year’s team consists of 20 core members with a total of over 100 members all together (the largest team we’ve had in all our 18 years)! The project costs over £30,000 annually and is entirely funded through sponsorship, from both industry and individuals.

In this tough economic climate, some of our long-running sponsors have been unable to continue supporting the team so we have decided to open up the sponsorship, allowing the public to become supporters of the team and help us towards our goals, and help turn our designs into reality.

In 2015 the team had its best year in its 18-year history, finishing 3rd in the UK and 7th out of 96 teams from all over the world who competed in the IMechE sponsored competition at Silverstone.

The team is hugely enthusiastic and motivated by last year’s success, so not only have they entered their new car in the Formula Student UK event at Silverstone in July, but also at Autodrom Most, in August in the Czech Republic!

This is a big ask and what the team desperately need is help. Many of the European Universities have a budget 5 times that of UBR, which largely relies on donations and sponsorship. With two competitions comes extra cost and cutting edge engineering doesn’t come cheap!

Please dig deep and see if you or your company are able to help the team, either as sponsors, with know-how, or a simple donation. Remember – as a certain large supermarket often says – every little helps!
