Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
There are many worthwhile charities in the UK today, which support Armed Forces Veterans. However, particularly notable is the Armed Forces Para-Snowpsorts Team, or AFPST as it's known, which provides a pathway for injured veterans to get back onto snow and potentially aim to take part in competitive
sports and indeed those with the ambition to compete in the Winter Olympics in 2018.
This wouldn't be possible without considerable sponsorship and charitable donations. The volunteers work tirelessly to provide opportunities across all
disciplines for veterans and serving personnel who wish to participate and take advantage of the wonderful training and coaching which is provided.
Earlier this year I travelled with my Wife Elizabeth, who is the Manager of the Nordic/Biathlon squad, to witness first hand how this fantastic charity provides a powerful outlet for injured athletes. The spirit amongst this team is a wonder to behold, good old fashioned military humour providing a stable platform from which these guys throw themselves back into Alpine skiing, cross country skiing, Biathlon plus many more.
The majority of these athletes have their own personal stories to tell, many have injuries, which are visible, such as amputees, burns victims and others who have invisible mental illnesses such as PTSD. Listening to their stories provides ample detail as to why they and the volunteers who support them are doing what they do.
Henceforth, this year, which coincides with my 40th Birthday, I have decided to challenge myself to the limit by coercing three other friends/family (Four Fathers) to take part in a charity challenge in order to raise funds and awareness for AFPST and support the great work they are doing for our nations finest! Joining me on this epic trip are Simon Creswell, Colin Moss and Andreas Gottfried.
We aim to complete the route of the infamous UTMB (Ultra Tour Du Mont Blanc), which is one of the toughest foot races in the world. Our goal is to complete 104 challenging and very steep miles, which includes 9000m of ascent, in under 4 days! So in essence, it's four marathons in four days with a total elevation gain that is higher than Mount Everest.
