Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Unfortunately, cancer affects all our lives in some form or another, be it watching our loved ones suffer or suffering from it ourselves. My family has had its fair share with both my parents suffering from cancer of the throat (Dad) and lung (Mum). My sister is in remission from lung cancer and myself from thyroid cancer. My cancer was discovered when I was 33 which was a big shock. I remember feeling incredulous that it could happen to me but it did. I survived the treatment and am still going strong although I never take it for granted. I still feel grateful for every day.
Due to my family's experiences, I chose to run the London Marathon for the World Cancer Research Fund which specialises in research on cancer risk and prevention. With your support we can hopefully reduce the number of people who will suffer from cancer in the future and help save lives of future generations. I have supported this charity myself for decades and love its positive messages: cancer in some cases is preventable with a few lifestyle changes, and the more research the WCRF can carry out will mean more cancers being preventable.
Thank you for taking the time to read my page and hopefully donating. I will definitely be suffering for the cause! In anticipation for the London Marathon in April, this summer saw me training for my first half marathon in October which I completed in 2 hours and 3 minutes. The day was unusually hot which made the run very tough, culminating in terribly painful calf cramps in both legs at the end! I've still got 2 black toenails 2 months on.
When you're all cosily wrapped up indoors against the winter weather, I will be out pounding the pavements, faithfully following my training plan.
Please give as much as you can to help fight cancer and inspire me to train in those dark winter mornings and evenings and finally get round the course in April.
