Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I visited North Devon Hospice just over twelve months ago for a tour, it is an amazing place and the staff do an incredible job, I explained to the lady that I believed my Dad had been cared for by the Hospice in 1983 before he died and the collection at his funeral was for respite beds in Barnstaple somewhere. She told me that his name will probably be in their book of remembrance then, as everyone they have cared for are. We looked and sure enough there it was 6th September 1983, he was one of the earliest entries of the thousands the North Devon Hospice have helped, I took my Mum up there Recently to visit her friend and the way the staff treated my Mum and her friend was just unbelievable, even offering my Mum some counselling.
While I was sat in the waiting area, a young girl I knew as a friend of Lucy (12 years old, exactly the same age I was when my Dad passed away) came along, with her Auntie, I knew her Mum has been very Ill, I did not need to ask, you could see it in their eyes, it was not good, we had a little chat and the auntie said this place is amazing not at only looking after my sister, but what they have done to support the whole family. I don't mind admitting I shed a few tears when they went away, it brought back memories for me, but it must be much worse to lose a Mum at that age.
It is for these reasons, I am incredibly proud North Devon Hospice have chosen me to run the London Marathon as one of their runners next April. So not only will I be doing something I really want to do (not sure about the training) I get to do it for an incredible local charity. I know many of you donated to myself and Jo's effort last year for CHSW so I don't expect you to donate, but if you can attend or help at one of my fundraising events it would be great.
