Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Dystonia affects millions of people around the world, and although its many forms can sometimes be painful and uncontrollable, the form Focal Dystonia is the form mostly associated with musicians, where loss of voluntary control of hands or embouchure can be totally debilitating and can end a playing career almost overnight. This can be even more devastating than a traumatic accident as that there is no known cure for dystonia.
As a recognised neorological disorder, treatment is primarily palliative and not curative, and although the condition can stabilise it never resolves spontaneously.
There is much more work needed to undersand the workings of this not uncommon affliction and this is why I am asking you to donate to the Dystonia Society to raise the profile and awareness of this distressing condition.
On August 8th I am setting off from John O'Groats in Scotland to cycle the 1,000miles or more to Land's End in Cornwall. All being well, I will arrive on the 26th, my 60th birthday. I am allowing just over two weeks to complete the course, riding up to 70miles a day. I will be accompanied on the the first part of the ride, from John O'Groats to Edinburgh, by my daughter Amelia, who has been busy running up mountains in preparation..
I have been training now for eight months for this important challenge and look forward to your generous support of my chosen charity.
