Story
From the day Freya came into our lives on 17 June 2011, we have been blessed to be able to love and care for such a beautiful little girl. Her birth was the most fulfilling moment of our lives and changed our motivation so that she had all the opportunity to make her dreams come true.
After two amazing years, during which we saw her bum shuffle then walk, say her first word ‘Dad’, develop a kind, bright and determined personality, Freya was diagnosed with Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) in September 2013.
DIPG is an incurable and inoperable Grade 4 brain tumour. Her chances of long term survival were next to nothing, but we tried everything possible to change what we know now was her destiny.
On 3 March 2014, after an incredibly brave fight, Freya passed away peacefully in our arms.
Freya was a beautiful, kind, fun loving girl who welcomed her family and friends with her famous ‘Freya Cuddles’. Through numerous family occasions we have been overwhelmed by the number of people she had a profound effect on and know that she will be missed and remembered fondly. She loved her Minnie Mouse cuddlies, arts & crafts and playing in her kitchen. Most of all and especially during her illness, she welcomed everyone into her Nail Salon and insisted on painting her family and friend’s nails.
We have lost a special girl and our lives will never be the same. Freya showed such steeliness in her fight against this severe disease, and we are compelled to ensure that Freya’s memories continue so that other children diagnosed with this condition have improved chances of survival in the future.
Our support of Lyla Nsouli Foundation is our way to ensure the global fight against this disease is properly funded so that new clinical trials can go ahead. Over the last 30 years there has been minimal progress in this fight compared to advancements in treating other cancers.
In loving memory of Freya, we ask for your help in changing this.
Love,
Sandip & Nisha x
