I will be embarking on a month without sugar! In one month, with others from World In Need we aim to raise enough funds for new classrooms at the ever expanding, Nancy George Academy in Kenya. Space at the school is limited and current classrooms are hot and at times very noisy when it rains.
Pupils and staff at the school do not have refined sugar in their diets and most will have never tasted a chocolate bar. Despite this, many children in Africa are forced to work on Cocoa plantations (especially on the Ivory coast) for little or no wages. Raising funds for new classrooms provides opportunities for education, which in turn reduces the likelihood of children like Abdul entering into child labour.
