I am fundraising for SHOC, a small charity in Slough that operates on around £175K pa budget and manages to help over 35 people a year gain employment, and a few hundred to get the roof over their head, learn basic sellable skills  and regain the dignity that we all associate with being a human. 

Supporting my local charity is very important to me. I believe that we need to protect our communities, and to create a safety net for those who, at some moments in time, feel they are unable to cope. We have all had the moments of total despair and darkness, but most us have had family, friends or our faith to carry us through. 

But imagine you had nothing? Nothing. At. All. How would you function? Cope? Eat? Sleep? SHOC will take you in, give you food and water, arrange for your lodging and work with you to help you back into the big wide world. 

SHOC have several pro-bono directors and consultants, local volunteers  and very few employees who work for a modest wage. But SHOC still need money. Everything boils down to cash. So whatever you donate will go straight to SHOC. It may pay for a bowl of soup, or a bed, or a course to teach someone basic word processing. It will pay the travel expenses of a volunteer who comes to SHOC offices to cook food.
