Story
About Peter Vallance
Peter Vallance was 20 years of age when, without any warning, he took his own life. He had no previous history of mental health problems nor had he shown any outward signs of his intentions.
Peter was a normal 20-year-old young man, who was extremely popular and well known in his local community. He had a large amount of good friends across the world and a family that loved him dearly.
He was a talented musician and enjoyed playing and singing, a young man with an active Christian faith, reaching out people across the world with his humour, music and talk.
To this day his family remain devastated by their loss and still are no nearer to understanding Peter’s choice of action on that day.
Pauline and Gordon along with their son Geoffrey hoped to do something positive and try and prevent a family suffering a similar experience. They wanted to create a lasting memory to Peter and created the idea of Peter Vallance Foundation.
They are developing a wristband that carries our message of hope to encourage people of all ages to “TALK” problems through instead of burying them within.
The initial aim of this website is to raise awareness of suicide tendencies and help people take note of the warning signs. 25% of people who die by suicide have a mental health issue, leaving around 75% of people who do not have mental health issues or have gone undetected. Through research we hope to understand why people self harm or have suicide tendencies in order to build new strategies to help people make better choices for their lives.
Eventually we hope to set up a non medical retreat or safe haven where people can gain some respite from their daily lives in order to seek the answers they need to build up their self esteem and help cope with their daily lives.
Funding is important to establish the charity fully and we need your support in order to realize our aims the main focus being prevention, support and research into suicide prevention. Through funding we hope to establish a number of projects in the Arts, Music and Sport.
