When I started thinking about running the London Marathon I wanted to look to support a local charity. Don't get me wrong all charities are worthy of fundraising, but I wanted to chose a charity that not only meant something to me personally but where my sponsorship would really make a difference.
So having lived in Reading all my life and with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) being a disease that effects a member of my family, I couldn't have been happier when Berkshire MS Therapy Centre offered me a place on their London Marathon team.
My cousins Donna is a full time carer for her husband David who has MS. It is centres like Berkshire MS Therapy Centre that provide them both with invaluable support and therapy.
Multiple Sclerosis affects nerves in the brain and spinal cord, causing a wide range of symptoms including problems with muscle movement, balance and vision.
Berkshire MS Therapy Centre is unique in Berkshire, as neither the NHS nor any other public or private agency provides a comparable range of services.
The centre aims to:
* improve the quality of life of people affected by MS.
* maintain and develop a Centre of excellence providing beneficial therapies, information and practical support to people with MS, their families and carers throughout the charity's area of benefit.
* promote self-help and encourage a positive attitude.
So while I face the biggest challenge of my life running 26 miles, please help me, help those who face challenges everyday with tasks that most of us take for granted, by donating to this worthy local charity.
Thanks in advance Gemma :)
