Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit Gemma's JustGiving page.

Gemma was a beautiful daughter, a lovely sister to Clare and fiancée to Huw, who she adored. A talented sailor, who in her youth represented Great Britain, she had overcome a number of years of illness and had everything to look forward to. Huw and Gemma were setting up home together in Yorkshire and following Huw's proposal in December 2012, were to be married on 20th December 2013.

She was a gifted artist and talented freelance print designer, and with help from the Princes Trust had established her own design studio. Her business was just taking off.

Unfortunately on July 16th 2013, whilst exhibiting at the Harrogate Home & Gift exhibition she was taken ill and rushed to Harrogate District hospital. She was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, however the prognosis was good. She had youth on her side and responded well to the initial treatment. However, after a brief spell at home she was admitted to York hospital where her condition gradually deteriorated. Following complications, she passed away on 30th September, 2013.

By donating to this page you may prevent others from having to endure such a frightening, painful and debilitating condition. You may also just save another family from going through the heartache currently being experienced by Gemma's family and friends.
