Story
On October 21, I will leave for Nepal to join an expedition to climb Island Peak (also known as Imja Tse) in the hope to reach the summit at 6,189m (20,305 ft).
The trip begins with a flight from Kathmandu to the airstrip at Lukla before a trek to Dingboche via the Sherpa capital, Namche Bazaar. After some acclimatisation days, it will take another two days to reach the Island Peak base camp at 5,000m. After 11 days of ascent, crossing a glacier and climbing a steep headwall of ice and snow, we expect to reach the summit of Island Peak which provides for magnificent views of the Nuptse (7,879m), Lhotse (8,501m) and Makalu (8,475m).
I will be climbing in support of Anonymous Child, an independent international organisation that strives to fight the cycle of poverty and inequality by providing support to high-impact local projects that enable children and young adults to make a positive change and become a driving positive force within their communities and wider societies. It is the lack of access to quality education, especially among the poorest and among girls, that is preventing millions of people from escaping the cycle of extreme poverty around the world. As such, Anonymous Child envisions a world where all children and young adults, regardless of their economic background, are given access to high-quality education and care to ensure a fair start in life and set them on the path towards a brighter future.
All funds will go directly to Anonymous Child and the educational programs it is supporting.
