Story
We are running the London marathon for Christian Aid. There are so many horrible things going on in the world, and we want to help a little bit (with the assistance of our friends, of course). It was important to us to pick a charity which is doing some real, real work in the parts of the world which are suffering the most.
In a nutshell, Christian Aid wants change, believes that we have the power to end poverty, and aims to eradicate its root causes. They are currently sending aid to:
- Nepali earthquake victims (58,000 people are still living in displacement sites, after the earthquake claimed the lives of 8,800 people). Christian Aid provided shelters for 124,000 people, and as winter approaches, is insulating these too.
- Syrian refugees (4 million people have become refugees, and more than 200,000 people have been killed and counting). Christian Aid has supported by giving essentials such as food, fuel, water, hygiene kits and infant kits. It is now looking at the longer term support of the refugees.
- Iraqi refugees (3 million people have been displaced as a result of relentless fighting in Iraq). People forced to flee their homes makes them more vulnerable to violence and insecurity. Christian Aid has not only sent basic aid essentials, but also counselling, legal and medical services.
These are just three examples of the great work that this charity is doing, right now. For more information, please visit their website http://www.christianaid.org.uk/aboutus.
We are all incredibly lucky and have so much more than enough. Be thankful for being born here, warm houses, running water, tonight's dinner and spare a few pennies if you can.
Many thanks for your help. G & L x
PS 26.2 miles is really far.
