Story
Our partner school in Ghana - Sacred Heart - is about 3 hours’ drive north of the country’s capital, Accra. The school has roughly 160 students and it is not uncommon to find the older teenagers in classes with children of primary age: this is because these older children may have not yet had the primary education needed to progress further up the school. Usually, this is because of a lack of money to pay the school fees. While the fees at Sacred Heart are not expensive at all, the area that the school is in is a poor one, and most of the students’ parents are subsistence farmers.
It is for this reason that KGS has decided to focus on ensuring that a sizeable proportion of our charitable efforts goes to Sacred Heart School. We are grateful for any donation you might be able to give. In particular, we have a target of raising £5,000 in 2014 to provide the school with sanitation facilities. On Friday 14 March 2014 we ran a ‘Ghanarama’ day, during which KGS students contributed to the Sacred Heart fund by taking part in a football competition, shopping at stalls and buying cakes, as well as attending a musical talent show that evening. Several KGS students are also going to be completing the 3 Peaks Challenge in aid of this fantastic cause, so please give generously!
