Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am doing this challenge for me personally to see if I can do it as I have done it for Lent normally so now pushing my boundaries while trying to give my poor body a break.  It is getting old and I need to be kinder to it.  However I can also use this opportunity to try and help someone else.  This helps me to grow as a person but also helps others too.

"As one person I cannot change the world but I can change the world of one person".  Paul Shane Spear

I am known to have done some pretty mad things before for charity such as shaving my head, guess my weight loss and doing sponsored walks.  Anyone who knows me know I hate walking and running and there has been some close ones where I arrive late - Beit Cure walk (Ha Ha Ha) but I still do them because through your support it spurs me on to achieve my challenge.

Billy's is an amazing inspiring story in which hope and positivity for others comes about through the loss and tragedy of a son far far from home and family at Cape Maclear in Malawi.  Billy's mother Mags Riordan set up this trust after visiting the place she lost her son. However rather than being caught up in her own grief she observed the daily suffering of this lakeside village where children and the sick had to walk a great distance to get treatment at the nearest health centre at Monkey Bay.  Some of them never completed this journey.

So Billy's have set up a fully functional and equipped health centre in Cape Maclear to prevent people having to make this journey.  Drugs are available for the sick and they have now just added a HIV/AIDS wing to their clinic.  This allows them to give better HIV/AIDS treatment and counselling for those who are HIV+.

So as the inspiration of this personal challenge comes from my friend in Cape Maclear Kay da Silva I thought it also appropriate to also fundraise for someone helping those in the Cape.
