Story
Hello Friends!
As an avid runner, and in anticipation of my 14th marathon, I have decided to compete in the 2017 Virgin Marathon in London, England. As a non UK resident participants must either gain entry to the marathon via lottery system or through raising money for one of the marathon’s recognized charities.
My charity of choice is the Neurofibromatosis Foundation. I have chosen to run for this foundation because I was born with this condition. Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form on nerve tissue. These tumors can develop anywhere in your nervous system. There are two types of the condition: 1. NF1 (which I suffer from) which is external tumors forming on nerve endings, appearing as bumps under the skin. 2. NF2 internal tumors forming on both the brain and spinal cord. Neurofibromatosisis usually diagnosed in childhood or early adulthood.
I began running in 2009 and it has become a defining characteristic in my well-being. Being able to combine my love of running which makes me feel mentally and physically well with my desire to contribute to much needed research for Neurofibromatosis is an incredible opportunity. Your contribution toward this charity not only helps me, but also helps fund crucial research into a condition that affects individuals worldwide.
Thank you!
