Story
GCBC are attempting a World Record on Saturday 11 January 2014 during our pre-Lent Term training week!
We will be looking to take the Concept 2 Ultradistance Erg World Record for a 24-hour erg in the Large Mixed Heavyweight Team aged 20-29 category. We are very confident that we will be able to beat the current record and are pleased by how many members of the boat club, past and present, have signed up to take part so far.
The reason for this Ergathon, in addition to how much fun it will be, is to fundraise for the club through sponsorship. Over the last few years, GCBC has been fortunate in receiving vital sponsorship to enable us to enter off-Cam races, keep our members’ subscription fees low, maintain our boats and pay Corpus Christi College for use of our shared boathouse, amongst other things. Sadly, we are now without a sponsor, and while we work to find a new one we are looking to cover our day-to-day running costs with this Ergathon with a view to purchasing a men’s scull, if we can raise enough.
We are looking to raise at least £5,000 and of course we would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to support us longer term.
We will be updating our progress via our social media pages on Facebook (www.facebook.com/GirtonCollegeBoatClub) and Twitter (@GirtonCollegeBC), if you’d like to see how we’re getting on with our record on the day!
Many thanks for reading. If you would like more information about what longer-term sponsorship entails and the benefits GCBC can offer you in return, please email Natalie Bird via sponsorship@girtoncollegeboatclub.com
Warm wishes, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
Girton College Boat Club
