After years of planning to volunteer abroad, the right opportunity has arisen and I will be travelling to Kenya on August 3rd. I will be offering my assistance in the medical clinics on the islands of Funzi and Bodo, as well as spending time in a 'jigger camp' where painful parasites (called jiggers or chigo fleas) that burrow under the hands, feet and under the nails, are removed. There will be opportunity for me to get involved with conservation work also. I will find helping to improve the quality of peoples lives extremely rewarding, while at the same time I will be learning new skills. 

I have already paid for my own flights and accommodation etc. therefore all money raised will go directly to the charity. Any donations at all will be greatly appreciated and will help make a big difference to lives in the area. 

10 years ago the Funzi and Bodo Trust was funded to help people in villages without clean water, sanitation or access to medical care. Run entirely by volunteers, it has provided 2 medical clinics, medicines, life saving operations, birthing rooms, health education, and it cares for adults and children with long term and terminal illness. The trust has also built 2 schools and opened 2 libraries. 

It is helping people start small businesses with micro loans - enabling them to support themselves and their communities. It has just built huge tanks to provide clean, less salty water and will soon complete a physiotherapy. In 2017 it hopes to build the first toilet blocks as no toilets currently exist in either village.
