Story
Go4it was created in memory of Ivan Purdie (1968 –2015). It began when his friends and family decided to host a charity golf tournament in his memory. Nearly £10,000 had already been raised in Ivan’s honour for Cancer Research UK, but after much thought and discussion we knew we wanted to do something that would have a direct impact on our local community. Ivan inspired the people around him to live life to the fullest and we felt the best way to honour his memory was to create a non-profit organisation that would do the same.
During Ivan's five-year battle with cancer, his quest to carry on doing the things he loved was what drove him every day. Even when he knew he was dying, he carried on living and encouraging us all to "Go for it" in every aspect of our lives. We have created Go4it to remind us of his extraordinary gift for truly living life. We hope to inspire, engage and empower other people facing adversity to do the same.
We learned through Ivan’s journey that illness and injury in a family impacts everyone, not just the individual who is suffering. Often, just managing to carry on 'existing' requires all of the resources and energy available. But just existing is not living. To carry on truly living people need support that enables them to focus on their personal well-being. This is particularly true both during and after injury and illness, and in instances of loss.
Our mission is to help people impacted by injury, illness and loss to overcome the obstacles they face and realise their full potential.
Go4it engages in fundraising activities for The Go4it Fund, which is administered by the Hertfordshire Community Foundation (registered charity number 1156082; Limited company registered in England under number 8794474).
The official launch date will be 14th October, at the inaugural memorial golf day. If you would like to get involved before then, please make a donation here or contact us at board@go4it.org.uk.
Many thanks,
The Go4it Team
