Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
EMMS , with the generous support of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, are looking forward to hosting a wonderful fund-raising dinner in aid of the Duncan Hospital's Karuna Project. It will combine the best of both cultures with excellent indian cuisine followed by a traditional Scottish ceilidh. The Project will target the community outreach , focusing on the health of mother and child. With your support we will continue the proud tradition of Scottish medical care for the millions without healthcare in this region.
With the earthquake tragedy which occurred in Nepal earlier this year, The Duncan, with your support, cared for many injured who travelled over the border from Nepal and from surrounding Bihar.
Our Story....
We have always been inspired by Drs Matt and Joanna Peacock who graduated in 1957 from Glasgow and were close friends of my late mother. They went on to commit most of their professional life to the Duncan Hospital in Bihar. This outpost on the border with Nepal is a mission hospital serving a population of 11 million. Jackie and I were saddened to hear that the medical building was crumbling and that plans for a new build had been shelved. We were delighted to be able to offer assistance - the new hospital opened in December 2010. I attended the opening with my friend and medical colleague Graham (Watson) as we were both be keen to offer clinical support in the future. Since then we have visited the Duncan with other medical colleagues and with our families, taking generously donated medical equipment, contributing clinically where we can and developing relationships and friendships with those who have devoted their lives to working at the Duncan. The Duncan Staff work tirelessly and are an inspiration to us all. We can assure you that every penny raised will be used wisely.
