Grace is a very special little girl. When she was born she wasn't breathing and was rushed to James Cook neonatal intensive care unit where she was placed in induced hyperthermia in a treatment called cooling to help prevent the brain from swelling and causing further brain damage. Ten days later and grace still hadnt woke up and we were advised to turn off her life support as were prolonging things for both grace and ourselves. Doctors told us grace would never be able to do anything for herself even swallow or breathe independently and was totally brain dead. The very next day she opened her eyes and then 48 hours later was off the life support breathing for herself. 4 weeks later she came off her tube feeds and managed to take fluids herself and now 3 and a half years on she is walking independently and attending a local nursery a couple of mornings a week. Even though grace has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy we aren't entitled to anymore NHS physio as they feel now she is walking they can't take her any further. She isn't able to manage the stairs or bend her legs and jump and we want to give her every opportunity we can to reach her potential. After all look how far she has come from the beginning! We also need help with her speech. Grace is unable to communicate and its £60 a session for a speech and language therapist or a private physio which is subsidied by North east charity heel and toe who will keep an account of all funds raised for us to use directly for graces therapy. My cousin Ian Raine is running the Great North Run in September 2016 to help raise these vital funds for Graces future. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch. Thanks for taking the time to read our story x x x
