Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
When I was in hospital in early 2015 with dermatomyositis hugely complicated by rapidly progressing interstitial lung disease; I promised to myself that once I was 'better' I would try to do a bit for charity. As soon as I got home I found the Myositis website and started a monthly donation. Most people seem to do marathons or bike rides - I wanted something a bit different but even six months ago I had not anticipated being in a position to suggest this.....
I am playing golf twice a week now from my buggy but find walking any distance very challenging. I still need oxygen to walk up even shallow inclines but the myositis (muscle weakening) side of my condition is the more debilitating. For this challenge I plan to walk the full course at Builth Wells with back up of my buggy if things do not go well; the biggest obstacles will be the climbs to the 13th, 15th and 17th tees. There will be no time pressures on the day (other golfers can fly by me) and I will do the round as soon as the target is reached. Currently I can do the flattish walk to town and back in around 45 minutes - 1.2 miles. Builth is around 4 miles long and hilly!!! I will not carry my golf bag - that would be too much. And I will use oxygen. Any support you can give would be hugely appreciated
