Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Our friend Louise Wisson and her husband Mike (2nd best left back Bath University 1999-2003) have been on personal battle against cancer for the last 4 years. Louise started out with a £10k fundraising target and after smashing this has set her sights on raising £100k for the Eve Appeal.
In the UK alone, 53 women will be diagnosed with gynaecological cancer today.....and 21 will die. The Eve Appeal vision is for better detection, risk prediction and prevention of all 5 gynaecological cancers.
I have been following Louise's journey over the past few years and have been inspired by her resolve, humour and refusal to let her illness dictate how she lives her life. Her Positive Mental Attitude blog is a fascinating read and is a real leveller when you think that you're having a tough time (www.louisewisson.com).
I won't lie, doing an ironman has been on my bucket list for a while now. However I've been thinking about what Lou and Mike are going through a lot recently and figure that rather than keep talking about doing an IM in the future, that I should just suck it up, sign up and raise some money for an extremely worthy cause and an outstanding couple.
At the time of writing there are 11 weeks to go for me to get fit enough to swim 3.8km, cycle 180km and run a marathon. I'm reasonably fit at the moment but this will be the biggest challenge I've ever taken on....however it's nothing compared to the last 4 years for Lou and Mike. The aim is to get to the start line in reasonable shape and haul myself round to the finish in whatever time my legs allow. In the process I hope to increase awareness of the battle that so many women are facing right now and raise money to support research in to gynaecological cancers.
Although the Eve Appeal is a UK based charity, my Australian friends and colleagues can still donate through this page. The funds raised will go towards furthering research and early detection of these diseases which will ultimately benefit our wives and daughters wherever they are in the world.
Thanks in advance for your support.
