Action Medical Research is an amazing, hidden gem of a medical research charity.  Research they funded was instrumental in establishing the polio vaccine and developed the ultra sound for medical use.  They discovered the link between folic acid preventing spina bifida and developed the cooling cap which is now used in every neonatal unit in the UK ..... and so much more besides.
