Story
I began actively supporting ACN last year, when in the course of some iconography research, I chanced to come across some terrible images of just how brutally Christians are being persecuted - and in some countries - murdered because of their faith. We're all inured to seeing difficult images, but what I saw shocked me into action.
This persecution goes virtually unreported in the mass media, thus limiting debate, understanding and aid. However, in April 2016, the UK government voted unanimously to recognise Daesh (ISIS)’s attacks on Christians, Yazidis and other ethnic and religious minorities as genocide.
This decision can be referred to the United Nations Security Council under Article two of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, which covers “acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group”.
Running (I use the term loosely) this 10k and raising £500 with your support is just one small way of helping beleaguered Christians in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
In particular, your donations can be used to directly help thousands of Christian families in Iraq and Syria, ancient Christian communities, who are having to abandon their homes and churches, in order not to lose their lives, identity and faith.
Thank you.
