Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
A small team of runners from HMS WESTMINSTER are running this year's Great South Run in aid of our affiliated charity LEAP. Please help us to raise as much as we can for this worthwhile cause. Thank you very much.
Leap is a youth charity that provides conflict management training to vulnerable young people aged 11-25. They particularly work with young people who have been excluded from school, are involved with social services or who are serving custodial services.
Leap delivers the training directly to young people in partnership with schools, prisons, and community and voluntary organisations. They also train teachers, prison officers, youth workers and other professionals, helping them better support the young people they work with.
Their impact is clear: for example, an 80% reduction in arrests one year after a Leap course completion and a 79% reduction in street violence following our community programmes.
In 2015, Leap directly reached 1,000 young people and we trained over 500 practitioners.
With cuts to youth support services, rising prison violence, and an increasing feeling of isolation and alienation among young people in the UK, there is a vital need for Leap’s programmes, as well as its research work into the origins of youth conflict.
