We fund projects at King George and Queen's to help make our hospitals even better!
Story
Hi All
Some of you may know that it has been a tough year for my family and me. Around October last year I had a bit of a headache. In true doctor style I ignored it and kept working. Unfortunately it got worse and within a week I had developed diploplia, facial palsy and a hemipareisis. I was urgently transferred to The Neurosurgical Unit at Queens Hospital where I was found to have a deep cerebral abscess. I was in theatres within 24hrs to have it aspirated and went back 12 days later because it recurred. I was a guest on The Neurosurgery unit at Queens Hospital for 6 weeks.
I was truly up sh*t creek without a paddle and It was only because of the actions of the amazing staff on Sahara B ward and the neurosurgical team that I managed to survive this experience and share it with you today. Through a lot of hard work and rehab I have made a full recovery and am now planning to do my first triathlon since getting ill!!
To make things worse just as I was recovering my dad was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia...and so we were back in Queens...again...I couldn’t have asked for a better service during my stay at Queens. Times are tough in the NHS and the future is unclear but I know first-hand that we all strive to do our best for our patients because that is why we chose this vocation. It’s the staff that make the NHS such a great institution and I wanted to show my thanks and support for them by raising a bit of money for Sahara B ward.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any donations made.
Cheers
