I have just returned from a trip to personally
see Hagar’s work in both Cambodia and Vietnam where our passionate and professional staff deliver exceptional care that transforms broken lives. However, in
recent days, Hagar Cambodia has reached crisis point. Funding has dropped
to critically low levels and as a result we have been forced to scale back our
recovery programmes.
Effective immediately, Hagar has no choice but to turn
away 50% of the girls who are referred to us for life saving support. The situation
is dire. We urgently need your help if we are to turn this situation around.
I imagine that as a supporter of
Hagar this update is alarming to you. Hagar UK is doing all that we can to
help. We are launching a special appeal this week to raise £20,000 for the
Girls Recovery Programme in Cambodia, a vital programme that provides care and
support to girls as young as 4 years old as they recover from the trauma of
being trafficked, abused and exploited.
Little girls like Chantou*,
who came through our doors as a
frightened six year old, overwhelmed with the extraordinary trauma that comes
from having her young body sold and then violated over and over again. Her innocence shattered, Chantou was a
broken little girl. However thanks to generous supporters we were able to surround
Chantou with the love, nurturing and support that she so urgently required. We
attended to her trauma, we housed her with a loving family and we found a way
to begin the process of restoration.
But
there are many other girls in Cambodia with similar stories to Chantou who need
to know that Hagar’s doors will not
be closed to them.
Please will you join me today? The
need could not be more urgent.
Thank you for your help in this critical time of need.
