The 44km GMHBA Great Ocean Road Marathon, 15 May 2017
We provide palliative care in Africa to enable pain relief for those who need it

Story

I will be running the Great Ocean Road Marathon in Victoria, Australia to raise money for Cairdeas Internaional Palliative Care. Cairdeas supports the Makerere Palliative Care Unit (MPCU) based at Mulago Hospital, Kampala, Uganda.

The MPCU is made up of a team of fantastic, forward thinking healthcare professionals who work incredibly hard to provide palliative care services to patients and families in Uganda. They fulfil a number of roles from the day to day clinical service provision to teaching, training and research. I was lucky enough to be part of this team for 4 months at the in end of 2015.

One of the most impressive parts of the MPCU is that they have been able to created a sustainable palliative care service in a resource limited setting. The money raised here will support their capacity building to help ensure that in years to come people in Uganda can have fair access to of good holistic palliative care.
